Only in Great Bend

There are just somethings that only happen in Great Bend, KS. For example: I know I've talked a little bit about the Larned State Hospital. It's a psych hospital where a recent convert lives. She's really progressing since we've gone to see her (she moved up from red band to blue band). But the hospital itself is quite a trip. All the buildings look really old and little bit well... Ominous. Several herds of deer live on the ground of the hospital (it has a huge campus and consists of several buildings). They just chill around the buildings laying in the grass and whatnot. The hospital grounds are also home to quite a few cats. I would say around 20-30 from what I saw. Most of them are black or brown tabby. I also saw a possum once running around at night(which are terrifying to see run around because they literally are just lie the ROUS from The Princess Bride).

Another thing that would only happen in Great Bend. We were walking down the street and started talking to this lady named Jodie. She really really loves her dogs. So while she was talking about how God created pet cemeteries and who knows what else. She suddenly stops mid-sentence and says, "Look who decided to join the conversation." I look behind me and there is a giant tiger! Luckily it was on the other side of the fence, but it was prowling right by us. Great Bend has a pretty good zoo for being such a small town. After talking to Jodie we continued walking by the fence and I also saw some big ole lions standing on top of a big rock. I've decided that this experience would only have happened in Great Bend or India, though it probably would have been more dangerous in India. Enough of 'Only in Great Bend' for now. This week one of our new investigators is Kaitlynn. She is the girlfriend of a less active member. She is really cool. She said she had already prayed about the Book of Mormon and believed that it was true before we even formally taught her. Later, when she started reading the Book of Mormon, she said that she really liked it and that it all made sense to her. She started reading from the beginning and read all the witnesses and introduction (that's one of the first times this happened to me), and we know she actually read because she knew the story of Joseph Smith before we taught her about it. She knew that he was a martyr.

Well I hope you all had a great week and enjoyed making any New Year's Resolutions you may have. Love you all! Élder Connor Waldrón
