This week I was introduced to a wonderful story called Bimbo the baby Bull. It kind of reminds me of one Dad's stories from his mind that I used to hate so much. Anyway we went to a less active's house in Boise City (an hour west of Guymon) and her nonmember husband told us this story:
When he was young he lived with his grandparents. He purchased a baby bull one summer and as the tale goes, he trained the bull to charge him, but it would only charge him, nobody else. And so the bull grew and grew and got to the good old size that bulls generally are. Well one day he teased the bull a little bit and charged at him and broke down the fence, he ran onto the porch and right before Bimbo the not-so-baby bull was to get him his grandmother pulled him in the house and Bimbo couldn't get in because of his horns. Well probably about a week later he was picking apples from a tree and Bimbo charged at him again and broke through the fence and cornered him up the tree. Well this time his Grandfather took care of Bimbo. But his grandfather also grabbed a gun and made him stand by his side as he shot Bimbo. For a year or so they ate the meat of Bimbo and his grandfather would remind him every time they ate beef.
I think this story is a great example of the importance of choices. I just imagined mom saying, "Choices!" when I heard this story. As a missionary you are supposed to warn people of the consequences of making poor choices. I think of an experience I had this week with and investigator. I think I have talked about H'waida before. Well we visited with her more this week because things have changed in her life to were she can now more easily come to church. She truly is one of the elect prepared. She feels the spirit everytime she talks with the missionaries and she knows that it's true. She gets excited every time you mention baptism or the possibility of her getting baptized. And so I was sure with the things changed this week she would come to church for sure, I fasted for it and everything. But she still didn't show up this week. Even though she knows that it's true and this that and other thing she still hasn't chosen to come to church.
I was actually thinking a lot about this after Sunday and I think I was a little upset and then luckily I watched the Mormon Message 'You Never Know' (one of my favorite ones) and heard this quote by President Hinckley at the end of it:
"Many of you think you are failures. You feel you cannot do well, that with all of your effort it is not sufficient... We all worry about our performance. We all wish we could do better. But unfortunately we do not realize, we do not often see the results that come of what we do...You never know how much good you do.”
Luckily I was able to hear this on Sunday and also Sunday evening we went and visited with Sister Weeko, a Less Active that we have experienced miracles with. Even though currently she is not choosing to attend church last night she bore her testimony to us that she does know that this the only true the church. The only church that has the priesthood authority. And that was good to know.
I hope that this letter isn't all over the place! hope you all have a good week!
Live Well, Be Good!
