Hola to all the people,
This has been a very eventful week. I guess I will start from the beginning at the travel. After getting past security I met up with two other missionaries, Elder Bingham and Hermana Wheeler. We all sat there silently for a little while and then we started talking where we were from and where we were going. Elder Bingham is from South Jordan, I don't remember where Hermana Wheeler is from... I know both of them are going to the same mission in Honduras, like the east mission or something like that. Anyway it was just us three for a little while. I saw a girl in a dress sitting somewhere else. I wondered if she was a missionary too, but I thought if she was she would have seen our suits and came over by us. I never sat by another missionary on any of the flights, but that's ok because I just slept mostly.
When we arrived at the Houston airport we met up with that other girl in the dress because she was a missionary, Hermana Nyre I think is the spelling and it sounds like Nyer. We met up with Hermana Scholl too, so the five of us stayed together getting into Mexico, and we waited for the other missionaries to arrive in Mexico. I think there were like 24 total. Our group was really different though, and they told us that from the beginning. They said we were the smallest group to come to the MTC and that we were the only group were the Hermanas outnumbered the Elderes. There are only eight Elderes and like 16 Hermanas.
After that we met our companions. My companion is Elder Hamman from Gilbert, Arizona. He is going to one of the Denver, Colorado missions. Then we met our district. So our district is really different. There are three companionships of Hermanas and one companionship of Elderes. We are really small and usually it is the other way around with Hermanas and Elderes. The news spread pretty fast because by the time we got to our first class I heard people whispering
''Look that's the new district with almost all Hermanas.''
Pretty funny. We have got along we really great though and have bonded we really fast. They called me as the District Leader and everything seems to be going pretty smoothly there so far. Since we're so small I'll just quickly describe everyone.
Hermana Benny: Hermana Benny is from the Seattle area I think. She is going to the Colorado Springs Mission. She is the first missionary of her family. She is somewhat softspoken but has a good spirit.
Hermana Haycock: Hermana Haycock is AWESOME. She is from an L.A. suburb and she is going to the Gilbert, Arizona Mission. She always has a scripture to share which is great and I have appreciated as district leader. Cool fact, her dad was an animator for Disney and helped animate the Hercules movie. Baby Hercules is modeled after Hermana Haycock when she was a baby. Also her dad worked on The Princess and the Frog movie. Her dad brought home three sketches of different princes and she picked the one that was used in the movie.
Hermana Sharpe: Hermana Sharpe is from California she is going to the Houston mission. She sees things in a different perspective which is good to consider sometimes.
Hermana Stevens: Hermana Stevens is from the Salt Lake area. We both get along really well because neither of us no very much Spanish and we know a lot of the same Landmarks in Utah.
Hermana Neff: Hermana Neff is super nice! She knows so much Spanish. She reminds me a lot of Samantha Winward, and I think she is going to the same mission so you will have to remind me which Mission Samantha is in.
and Hermana Scholl: Hermana Scholl has a great spirit. She is from Arizona and is going to MINNESOTA! woot woot!
So I've seen Hermana Priestley a lot since I've been here and I think that that has been a really good blessing to me. I really enjoy seeing her! I have a few pictures that I will send you. We are only allowed to take pictures on p-day so not very many yet. But I'll show you the area around the CCM and my apartment. I'm still waiting for that picture from Hermana Haycock so I don't know if I'll get that before I have to be done.
We had a special devotional where Elder Anderson came! I got to shake his hand! Some highlights from the devotional where:
Judge yourself against yourself, not against others
You need to get used to yourself because you are you forever
It was really spiritual! Probably easily the highlight! My face felt lifted in his presence and I was like, an apostle can break the Devey Scowl curse!
I played basketball the other day and I swished like three or more shots! Wow! Mission Blessings (haha... ya...)
The food is good! No food poisoning. The food is fine so far. We've made some other Elder friends and sit by them by lunch.
Adios,
LOVE YOU! Elder Waldron
